Through footage from his research documentary, Carlo Pizzati tells the story of his great-uncle Ottone Menato, a prisoner in British camps in India. From Mumbai to Bangalore to Dharamsala, through secret archives and reconstructions of British intelligence plans to “re-educate” Italian prisoners, an intimate dialogue with the past emerges. It intertwines today’s India, advancing toward an increasingly powerful future, with that of the 1940s, caught between colonialism and independence.
