Fondazione MAST presents the display Animo, Cipputi! A 50-year long tale of work in Italy through Altan’s drawings, curated by Cosimo Torlo, in collaboration with Altan and with the support of Solares Fondazione delle Arti.
It takes place in MAST.Gallery 0 and is dedicated to the iconic character created by Altan, revisiting the works of an artist who skillfully and irreverently depicted Italy and its transformations over the past decades. The display is part of the initiatives for the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the G.D company and the 10th anniversary of Fondazione MAST.
Cipputi is the anti-hero character par excellence, a regular worker, created by Altan, who perfectly fits into the cultural dimension of Fondazione MAST. The Fondazione, in fact, has always focused its attention on the theme of work, seen through the lenses of photography and also of G.D, a company specialized in industrial solutions that, thanks to the contribution of human capital, a solid base for the past few decades, has built its high technological identity with a wealth of knowledge and awareness not only about work but also in terms of social responsibility, welfare, and solidarity.
“Making work a culture and culture a work”: is the guiding principle that binds these two realities together, representing on one hand the corporate culture of the long-established company (G.D) and on the other hand the creation of an innovative and participatory space for the production of thought on work (MAST).
The journey is divided into decades, from the 1970s to the first decade of the new millennium, featuring 227 pieces of works, 201 of which original and 26 in digital prints.
The panels tell us about the significant events of each decade: national contracts, crucial disputes, political climate, international events, and social achievements supported by the slogans of those years to show the real face of Cipputi. Four large silhouettes of Cipputi will be displayed and they will be symbolically engaging in a dialogue with a model of "Monument to the Worker" by Pietro Perotti and Altan.
The display also offers the documentary “My name is Altan and I draw comic strips” by Stefano Consiglio, in which the author of “Cipputi” tells the creation and the evolution of his character.
The LiberEtà printed catalogue is on sale at MAST.Point.
