On June 12 and 19,  Fondazione MAST presents a series of short films exploring some themes of the exhibition Communautés.

During the first of two events, four short films by Mohamed Bourouissa will be screened. The evening will be introduced by the artist himself, along with Roy Menarini, Professor of Cinema and Cultural Industries at the University of Bologna.

For the second cineclub event, Mohamed Bourouissa has suggested three short films by young, acclaimed directors that echo some of the themes of his exhibition Communautés, such as suburban life and immigration. Introducing the evening: Anaïs-Tohé Commaret, Franco-Chilean director of one of the short films in the program, and Roy Menarini.

Mohamed Bourouissa, born in 1978 in Blida, Algeria, lives and works in Gennevilliers, France. His works have been exhibited worldwide and are part of major collections, including those of MoMA in New York, LACMA in Los Angeles, the Centre Pompidou, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

Roy Menarini is a Full Professor at the University of Bologna, where he teaches Cinema and Cultural Industry. He has authored numerous books on contemporary cinema, film criticism, and cinephilia. He has published essays in leading national journals and is the senior editor of the biannual journal Cinergie. He collaborates on various projects focused on education and training in audiovisual literacy.

Anaïs-Tohé Commaret is a filmmaker born in 1992 in Vitry-sur-Seine, France, to Chilean parents who were political refugees. A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris, she was awarded an artist residency in 2021–2022 at the prestigious Le Fresnoy – Studio National des Arts Contemporains. In her work, Commaret explores the sensory potential of the cinematic medium, and her practice is marked by a continuous interplay between fiction and documentary. The protagonists of her films are those she defines as anti-heroes/ghosts — characters who wander in search of a place where they can feel at ease.
